Climate Change Conference Brings Experts From China To The South Coast

A two-day event aimed at tackling climate change, “The Environment: Issues and Strategies in the U.S. and China” is being held at UC Santa Barbara and has drawn experts from both China and the United States.

Mayfair Yang, a UCSB professor and Director of the University’s Confucius Institute, says she organized this conference because the two countries are the world's top polluting nations, and they have a lot to learn from each other.

"This ancient Chinese tradition of nature-loving and wanting humanity to go with the patterns of nature, is very important," Yang says, "and can also have a conversation with the western tradition of high regard for nature."

The sessions bring together experts from all disciplines with panels focused on natural and social sciences, environmental ethics, political economy and media.
