Santa Barbara County Vinters Sending Wine As Thank You To Medical Staff

Santa Barbara County winemakers have a surprise for frontline medical responders in Southern California.

What started as a small gift from one winemaker to UCLA Medical Center has expanded to gifts for a number of hospitals, from Santa Barbara to San Diego.

Each gift of wine will have a tag on it expressing thanks for those in the fight against coronavirus.

Michael Speakman with Westerly Wines lead the effort.

"We're taking the wine, and we're putting a little hangtag just thanking the nurses, the doctors, the first responders for what they're doing, and letting them know that when we're done with this, come back up and visit," Speakman said.

"I think that's a good thing for everyone, to try to help with the economy up here once we get through all this stuff."

About 700 bottles of wine were sent out as gifts, according to estimates.

Andy worked at KCLU from 2016 until 2022.
