Ventura County Prosecutors Say Beware Of Coronavirus Related Scams

GAVEL_1.JPEG

Ventura County prosecutors say we’re seeing a surge across the county in coronavirus related scams. Prosecutors are urging the public to be cautious. Some scammers are offering phony home test kits online.

Others are posing as legitimate companies offering items in short supply, like faces masks and hand sanitizer.

Some criminals are using robocalls, e-mails and text messages claiming to be government agencies. But, they then ask you for personal information like your social security number. Never give that out online, or to a caller.

And, perhaps one of the worst examples are fake charities which try to prey on the goodwill of people trying to help those in need.

Prosecutors say to make sure you don’t become a victim, verify before you buy something, or make a donation.
