Some of the largest transit systems on the South Coast are making reductions in service as a result of the coronavirus crisis. The Ventura County Transportation Commission is going to begin operating four of its six lines on weekend schedules starting Thursday.
The moves are the result of a drop in ridership during the last few weeks. The changes affect VCTC’s Highway 101, Highway 126, East County, and Channel Islands routes. Passengers are being asked to limit travel to essential trips, like for food and work.
Meanwhile, Santa Barbara’s Metropolitan Transit District has reduced operation to school campuses because of their closures. People without disabilities are being used to use bus rear doors to protect drivers. But, the good news for riders is that MTD bus service is free on fixed routes until further notice.
