The City of Port Hueneme is asking voters whether to change its name

The question is - should it change its name?

The City of Port Hueneme is asking voters whether to change its name in the November 2022, midterm elections.

The City of Port Hueneme on the South Coast, and not to be confused with the Port of Hueneme, where ships come in.

So voters are being asked in the up-coming election, whether to change name of the city to Hueneme Beach.

The idea had a mixed reaction from those out and about on the pier.

"I think we should keep it as Port Hueneme because of the history," said one.

"I like the beach name," said another.

"I'd like to keep it as Port Hueneme. I like the port plus I'd have to change all my address labels and I don't want to have to do that!"

It’s not the first tri-counties city to consider the move, Grover Beach was originally known as the Town of Grover.
