The recent mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas, as well as the 2018 Borderline mass shooting, has focused attention toward tackling gun violence.

March For Our Lives is a national, youth-led movement which was born out of the 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Thousand Oaks resident Molly Salmon says she organized a local march in Thousand Oaks on Saturday in the wake of the mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas.

"Both of my kids are in elementary school. Every day they walk out of the door and I think about the possibility that I might not see them again," she told KCLU.

"It's really terrifying to think that is something that could happen anywhere and our government isn't doing anything about it.

"Even the most basic actions like universal background checks that over 90% of Americans support, haven't been done and that's very frustrating," she said.

Scheduled speakers at the rally include Congresswoman Julia Brownley.

Caroline joined KCLU in October 2020. She won LA Press Club's Audio Journalist of the Year Award in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Since joining the station she's also won 11 Golden Mike Awards, 6 Los Angeles Press Club Awards, 4 National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards and three Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Excellence in Writing, Diversity and Use of Sound.

She started her broadcasting career in the UK, in both radio and television for BBC News, 95.8 Capital FM and Sky News and was awarded by Prince Philip for her services to radio and journalism in 2007.

She has lived in California for eleven years and is both an American and British citizen - and a very proud mom to her daughter, Elsie.
