Santa Barbara Police Monitoring Old Spanish Days For Coronavirus Concerns

Even with most of the major activities cancelled for Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days, police will still be increasing staffing.

Santa Barbara Police Public Information Officer Anthony Wagner says that the department will be trying to discourage people from gathering in large groups.

They'll also be working closely with the Santa Barbara County Health Department to try to make sure people are wearing masks out in public to reduce the risk of coronavirus spread.

The Police Department is also concerned about an influx of tourists on the weekend during Fiesta, despite the cancellation of many in-person events.

A Fiesta cruiser ride, where hundreds of people  ride bicycles from the iconic Santa Barbara Dolphin Fountain through to Goleta, is also a concern.

Andy worked at KCLU from 2016 until 2022.
