Election workers throughout the state of California, including on the South Coast, are taking ballots that were cast on Tuesday and checking them over.
The workers are looking to determine exactly who the person was trying to vote for on ballots with cross-outs, mark-overs, or in cases where someone has multiple possible selections in a segment only allowing one.
Santa Barbara County's Clerk-Recorder Joe Holland says there are about 1200 such ballots they're sorting through.
"If you mis-mark the ballot, you can cross it out, put an arrow, say 'No', and you can fill in the next oval, put an arrow saying 'Yes', and that's voter intent," Holland says. "We provide instructions on that."
Workers are working in teams of two to verify the decisions being reached.
