Deadly Channel Islands Boat Fire Was On Vessel Well-Known In Community

The Santa Barbara community is remembering those lost in the tragic fire on the Conception dive boat.

The walkway to Sea Landing at the harbor where the ship is normally docked now has flowers and burning candles on it.

The Conception is well-known in the area.

The 75-foot boat was built in Long Beach in 1981, and has a prominent spot at the Santa Barbara Harbor near the Condor Express whalewatching boat.

Many members of the community had been on board the Conception for dive trips, school and educational excursions, and marine research.

The owners of the boat had been honored for their operation and their environmentalism in the area.

Andy worked at KCLU from 2016 until 2022.
