No-Cost College Becomes Reality For Certain South Coast Community College Students

The College Promise Program, which pays tuition and books fees for some students for two years, will continue at Santa Barbara City College this semester.

To qualify for the program, the students must  be local highschool graduates who finished school within a year,  and they must attend college full-time.

Different versions of the program are offered at 23 California community colleges, including Ventura and Cuesta.

Santa Barbara City College's program covers costs for four semesters. Their future goal is to reach an endowment of $40 million primarily from local donors.

There are currently 730 students part of the promise program this semester.
