A new program is offering special grants to small businesses in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties impacted by the Hill and Woolsey brush fires. Women’s Economic Ventures is offering more than two dozen business recovery grants of up to $10,000 each to eligible businesses.

A Ventura County congresswoman has introduced two pieces of legislation to try to keep quality medical care available to veterans. Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley of Westlake Village is sponsoring the bills.

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s move to place a moratorium on implementation of the death penalty has affected a number of convicts from the Central and South Coasts.

Of the 737 people on the state Death Row, 17 are from Ventura County and eight from Santa Barbara County. Some of the convictions are more than three decades old.

Southern California Edison is disagreeing with key details of a just released report on the cause of the massive December 2017 Thomas brush fire which killed two people, and charred more than 280,000 acres in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.  The official report from the Ventura County Fire Department blames arcing of some Edison power lines in high wind for starting the blaze.

Texas is one of 12 states voting on "Super Tuesday" next week, but Republicans there are a little nervous about this year's election.

But have you checked airfares lately?

If you haven't looked since Christmas, you may be in for a surprise: Many fares are up. In fact, the largest U.S. carriers have nudged rates higher three times in recent weeks.

Farecompare.com, a fare tracking website, says airlines are charging $22 more for round-trip flights this year. Most of the hikes are hitting smaller cities and less competitive markets.
