Pilot Program Vaccinating Ventura County Farmworkers In Advance Of Widespread Rollout

The nationwide death toll from the pandemic now tops the 500,000 mark, a total which includes 19 new deaths on the Central and South Coasts.  Ventura County had 12, Santa Barbara County four, and San Luis Obispo County three over the three-day period from Saturday through Monday.  The total of deaths related to the virus in the region now stands at 1410.

The Air Force has announced plans to test launch an intercontinental ballistic missile from the Central Coast this week.  The launch window at Vandenberg Air Force Base begins at 11:47 Tuesday and extends to 5:47 Wednesday morning. 

Investigators are trying to figure out what led to a three vehicle crash which left two people dead, and closed a major highway for hours.  The crash happened Sunday afternoon on Highway 126 just east of Santa Paula.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew braved bad weather to evacuate an injured cargo ship crew member off the Central Coast.

It happened on board the Hyundai Jupiter Friday.  The crew member was hurt in a 16 foot fall.  The ship radioed the Coast Guard for help.

The downward trend in new COVID-19 cases on the Central and South Coasts is continuing.  352 additional cases were reported in the region Friday.  Ventura County had 141 additional cases, Santa Barbara County 154, and San Luis Obispo County 57.  It brings the three-county total since the start of the pandemic to just under 127,000.

They are one of the most interesting units in the U.S. Navy. Naval Construction battalions, better known as “Seabees” are specially trained to build everything from airfields to housing around the world under combat conditions.

Their history was made famous by the classic World War II movie, “The Fighting Seabees.” What many people don’t know is that not only the Seabees history rooted in Ventura County, it’s home to the Seabees National Museum.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports that this weekend, the museum will host a free screening of “The Fighting Seabees.”
