Powerful winter storms inflicted significant damage across the Los Padres National Forest, with four of the five rangers districts having been closed since mid-January.
However, most of the Forest has reopened this week for public use, with the exception of certain trails, roads and campgrounds that require additional repairs.
However, Andrew Madsen from the Los Padres National Forest said with more winter storms forecast, it's still not a great time to be outdoors recreating in the Forest.
Madsen told KCLU that it’s been challenging to deal with the impact of the storms.
"Our estimates right now are that to repair all of the damage would be in excess of $100 million, and obviously that's outside of our budget scope so we need to seek additional funding sources," said Madsen.
"We are doing the best we can, taking into account we could have future storm activity which could set us back," he added.
