A Ventura County couple has entered pleas to murdering a newborn in a hospital.

Woman told authorities she was pregnant after being raped, and she and her boyfriend didn't want the child.

It was a crime which shocked the Tri-Counties. A couple has pled guilty to murdering a newborn baby in a Ventura County hospital. Diego Villa and Andrea Camacho moved to Ventura County from Mexico in 2019.

She was pregnant, and later told authorities the baby was the result of her being raped by another man. The couple didn’t want the baby.

In July of 2019, she went into labor and was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. The baby boy, named Diego, was born, and he was healthy.

Prosecutors say that night, the couple unsuccessful tried to kill the newborn. Investigator say when that failed, Diego Villa then tried to strangle the baby.

Once the baby appeared dead, he put the child back in a bassinet and called a nurse. The child wasn’t dead, but he passed away the next day.

The couple was charged with murder. Now, there’s word that Diego Villa pled guilty to first-degree murder, and Andrea Camacho to second-degree murder.

Prosecutors say the whole thing was preventable. Under state law, they could have simply and legally given up the baby, which would have been put up for adoption.
