Deputies say they catch duo with a dozen stolen catalytic converters in Santa Barbara County

Two San Fernando Valley men are accused of stealing 20 catalytic converters from the Santa Barbara County area. They were arrested early Tuesday morning near Isla Vista.

Two San Fernando Valley men are accused of stealing 20 catalytic converters from the Santa Barbara County area. They were arrested early Tuesday morning near Isla Vista.

It started as a routine traffic stop in Santa Barbara County. But, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies say they found two men with a carload of stolen catalytic converters.

The vehicle was leaving the Isla Vista area at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when it was stopped on Los Carneros Road. Deputies discovered 20 of the converters in the car, along with a jack, and a drill.

The two San Fernando Valley men were arrested on charges ranging from grand theft to possession of stolen property

Deputies say they received reports all day long today from people discovering that the vehicle’s catalytic converters had been stolen. The converters contain valuable metals which can be sold for hundreds of dollars at recycling centers.
