Project to clear slide on Highway 23 could take several days.

A rock slide has closed a major highway connecting Ventura County with the Malibu area.

It happened October 11 on Highway 23, between the Pacific Coast Highway and Encinal Canyon Road. The slide happened about 1.5 miles north of the Pacific Coast Highway

Last Friday, crews dealing with the debris were forced to completely close the highway so they could safely do the work.

They have been removing dirt, loose rocks, and boulders from the steep slope. Traffic between Ventura County, and Malibu is being routed around the shutdown on Encinal Canyon Road. They are hoping to clean up the slopes by Thursday, and then install mesh to help prevent future slides.
