A piece of an airplane which hit a building after takeoff from Camarillo Airport, and then crashed.

The plane clipped a building after takeoff from Camarillo Airport, then smashed into an agricultural field and caught fire.

A flight from Ventura County to Phoenix ended in tragedy, when the plane crashed moments after takeoff. The accident killed the plane’s pilot.

Federal investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong. The single engine plane took off from Camarillo Airport just before 8 a.m. Friday. But, after takeoff it clipped a building west of the airport.

Some debris from the plane was found on the building’s roof, but no one inside was hurt.

The plane then crossed Highway 101, crashing in an agricultural field north of the highway. The aircraft smashed into the ground, and burst into flames.

The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Fortunately, there were no agricultural workers in the field when the plane hit.

While the plane didn’t hit the freeway, activity related to the emergency response and investigation snarled traffic on the 101 for hours.
