A sewage spill has closed part of a South Coast beach to ocean access.

Spill happpens in Isla Vista.

A section of a popular South Coast beach has been closed by a sewage spill.

Santa Barbara County Public Health officials say it happened in Isla Vista.

An unknown amount of sewage ended up in a storm drain, which discharged near Pelican Park. There’s no word on what led to the spill.

People can still walk on the beach, but going in the ocean from Ocean Road to Camino Pescadero Park has been banned.

Health officials say they are monitoring the water to determine when it can be reopened to the public for uses like swimming.
