Police say clerk fought with robbery suspect, stabbing him during confrontation.

A suspect in a convenience store robbery on the South Coast is dead following a confrontation with a store clerk. It started at around 2 a.m. Thursday on the 400 block of South Victoria Avenue in Oxnard.

A clerk told investigators a man armed with a pistol entered the store, and demanded money.

The clerk says he handed over some money, but the man then ordered him outside of the store. Fearing for his life, he fought with the suspect. The clerk had a knife, which he used to stab the man multiple times.

Officers say robbery suspect then fled the scene. He was found a few minutes later nearby by someone who called 911. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died several hours later. It was later discovered that the man had been using a replica handgun. His name hasn’t been released yet.
