A project to build a groundbreaking freeway crossing to help mountain lions, and other wildlife safely cross Highway 101 in the Conejo Valley received another big donation.
Aerospace giant Boeing donated $1 million towards building what’s been named the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing near Liberty Canyon, in the Agoura Hills area.
Boosters say they now have commitments for about $80 million of what expected to be around a $90 million project. Work could start this year on the 165-foot wide crossing, which will span ten lanes of freeway.
The crossing will be landscaped with soil and native plants, providing a passageway for mountain lions and other wildlife which currently have their habitat split by the freeway. It will be the largest crossing of its type in the world.
