The latest numbers show more than 17,000 additional COVID-19 cases in Ventura County.

Total from January 14-19 also includes 16 additional COVID-19 related deaths in county.

Ventura County is reporting its first new COVID-19 cases numbers since the holiday weekend, and the number is huge. The county is reporting that 17,717 people tested positive since from January 14 through 19. 16 additional deaths are also being reported.

While the number of new cases is large, it covers two reporting periods. The county would have normally issued its weekend numbers on Monday, but didn’t because it was a holiday.

The positivity test rate is at just over 22%. That means around one in five people getting checked is testing positive for the virus.

Santa Barbara County is reporting a one-day total of 1,060 new cases. Its positive test rate is at around 18%. San Luis Obispo County is issuing its numbers on a weekly basis, so there is no update Wednesday.
