Ventura County's schools are getting new help in efforts to promote COVID-19 safety, with the delivery of more than a half million N95 masks from the state.

514,000 masks were delivered to the Ventura County Office of Education in Camarillo. They'll be distributed to the county's schools for voluntary use by students and staff.

Everyone over two is required by the state to wear face coverings while indoors on school campuses. But, families and employees can decide what kinds of masks to use.

The N95 masks are considered to be especially effective against the Omicron variant, with experts saying they can filter out more than 95% of airborne particles.
