It was a spectacular sight for early risers on the Central and South Coasts Saturday morning.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base at 4:41 a.m. Saturday, carrying more than 50 small satellites into orbit.
The Starlink satellites are part of a growing network of satellites intended to help provide internet service to underserved parts of the world.
More that 2,000 Starlink satellites are now in orbit as part of the network.
After the rocket's first stage successfully completed its part of the mission, it successfully landed on a drone barge in the Pacific Ocean so it can be reused.
SpaceX officials say it was the 11th mission for the booster which was used on Saturday. Being able to reuse the boosters has resulted in huge savings for launches.
