Amtrak is requiring reservations on the Pacifc Surfliner route Thanksgiving week due to an expected spike in demand for service.

Anticipated spike in demand for service also prompting addition of more passenger cars.

An expected surge in rail traffic over the Thanksgiving holidays means that people planning to use Amtrak trains on the Central and South Coasts will have to do some advanced planning.

People wanting to travel between San Diego and San Luis Obispo on the Pacific Surfliner during the holiday period won’t be able to get walkup tickets.

Reservations will be required from November 24th through November 29th.

Also, monthly Metrolink passes which people can normally used on Surfliner trips won’t be accepted during the six-day period.

Amtrak officials say they are adding additional cars to the route to help meet the increase in demand.
