Maestro Michael Christie is the new Music Director for the New West Symphony

A Ventura-County-based symphony orchestra has announced the selection of a new music director, and it is someone who is already a familiar face to many of the region's concertgoers.

Michael Christie will debut as Music Director for the New West Symphony in October of 2019, which is the kickoff of the organization's 25th anniversary season.

But, he's already worked with the symphony, leading its "Rhapsody In Blue" concerts this last October.

Christie served as Minnesota Opera's Music Director for eight seasons.  His live recording of the opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs was nominated for four Granny Awards.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
