With Students Roaming Further For Free Parking, South Coast College Expands Parking Program

Filled with students and not enough parking on campus, Santa Barbara City College has off-campus impacts that have upset neighbors for years.

Studies show students have gone several blocks over from campus to park, and that has had a negative impact on the residents that live there.

The school's residential parking program, mandating an annual paid window sticker to avoid a ticket, is now expanding beyond streets like Oceano and Barranca, and will be going over as far as La Marina.

To keep the cars out of the neighborhood, the school offers free bus passes and ridesharing programs, and at times even a free breakfast for anyone who rides, walks, busses or boards to campus.
