Santa Barbara County Issues Evacuation Orders For Parts Of Thomas, Whittier, Sherpa Fire Burn Zones

A strong storm system on track to hit the Central and South Coasts this weekend has led to evacuation orders for some burn areas in Santa Barbara County.

The orders are for specific parts of the Thomas, Whittier, and Sherpa brush fire burn zones. They take effect at 8 Friday night. You can find a map here.

Santa Barbara County officials say people adjacent to evacuation areas should also consider leaving, because they could become isolated during a debris flow.

A Red Cross Evacuation Center opens at 7 Friday night at the Goleta Valley Community Center. Some of the heaviest rainfall is expected overnight.

We could see one to three inches of rain on the coast and inland, and up to seven inches of rainfall in mountain areas. Showers, locally heavy at times, could continue through Monday.
