Number Of TB Cases From Summer Outbreak In Ventura County Grows Slightly

The number of people testing positive for tuberculosis in Ventura County continues to grow in connection with a pair of related outbreaks over the summer.

11 students and four employees have tested positive in connection with an outbreak at Rio Vista Middle School in Oxnard in June. The numbers grew slightly as testing was expanded to include more than 600 students and employees.

Meanwhile, more than 270 employees, and members at 24 Hour Fitness in Oxnard have now been tested in connection to a related outbreak. Nine members and four employees have tested positive. The status of 50 more gym members is still unknown.

TB is common around the world, but unusual in the U.S. It is easily treatable when diagnosed.
