There were some scary moments in a South Coast neighborhood when someone cleaning out their garage found what was believed to be a live World War Two era hand grenade.

The device was discovered at about 1:30 Saturday afternoon, on a home on Tajo Drive in Santa Barbara.

The grenade had belonged to the homeowner’s late grandfather, who was a World War II veteran. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies evacuated several homes in the area. The County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to the scene, and safely removed and disposed of the grenade.
