A pair of bills authored by a South Coast legislator intended to reduce sexual harassment in the workplace are now law.
Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 1300, which is intended to give victims of sexual harassment more protection in court. It also adds new requirements for employers to educate workers about how to intervene to stop harassment, and reporting it if they see it.
Brown also signed SB 224, which expands sexual harassment laws among those with special relationships like directors and actors, and elected officials and lobbyists. Both bills authored by Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara take effect on January 1st.
