Girl Riding Bike To School In Ventura County Targeted By Would-Be Abductor; Escapes Unharmed

A search is underway in Ventura County for a man who attempted to abduct a girl on her way to school.

Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives say a nine year old girl was riding her bike to school in Newbury Park just after eight Friday morning.

A man in a white van stopped the Walnut Elementary School Student near the intersection of Lesser Drive, and Spanish Gate Drive. Detectives say the man first tried to get the girl to get into the van, and when she refused, he grabbed her leg. She was able to free herself, and flee to her school what she reported what had happened.

Sgt. Eric Buschow, with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, says they have a partial description of the man. He’s believed to be White or Hispanic, in his 30’s, with brown hair. He was wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and had his face partially covered with a mask.

Buschow says they’ve had teams of investigators canvassing the area, looking for witnesses as well as surveillance video.
