California Lutheran University presents The Lutheran Tradition and the Life of the Mind, a speaking engagement featuring Richard T. Hughes.
As part of a spring series on The Reformation Heritage of CLU, Professor Richard T. Hughes will lecture on the topic "The Lutheran Tradition and the Life of the Mind" in the Nelson Room. Students, faculty, staff and the general public are invited to attend.
Richard T. Hughes is the Distinguished Professor of Religion and Senior Fellow in the Ernest L. Boyer Center at Messiah College in Grantham,
Pennsylvania. He was formerly the Director of the Pepperdine University
Center for Faith and Learning and has worked extensively with the Lilly Endowment on projects exploring the various ways in which church-related schools and universities in north America understand themselves.
Richard Hughes is the author of numerous journal articles and seventeen books, among them being _Models for Christian Higher Education: Strategies for Survival and Success in the 21st Century_ (Eerdmans, 1997) and his most recent work _The Myth of Christian America_ (University of Illinois Press, 2008). Hughes has received special praise for his clear presentations of institutions related to the Mennonite, Reformed, Catholic and Lutheran traditions.
