The Future of Blue Whales Forum
Thu, Sep 04, 2008 at 7:30pm
Solvang Library, 1745 Mission Drive, Solvang
Event Description
The Santa Ynez Valley Historical Society presents a public forum on The Future of Blue Whales in the Santa Barbara Channel. The forum, led by Michelle Berman, a marine biologist with the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, will explore blue whales (the world’s largest mammals), and in particular cover the research she and her colleagues have done after last summer’s strandings of five blue whales in Southern California.
How these whales died, and the new strategies that have been developed to protect this species in the Santa Barbara Channel, are the subject of her illustrated lecture. Berman will also provide a broad overview of the species.
This event is free and open to the public.
