Once a Warrior - Speaking Engagement
Sun, Feb 10, 2008 at 3:00pm
Victoria Hall, 33 West Victoria Street, Santa Barbara
Event Description
The Capps Center presents Dr. Bridget Cantrell and Vietnam Vet Chuck Dean, as they explore the similarities and differences between the current war and those that have come before.
Cantrell’s ongoing psychological work with U.S. military units and individual warriors will be highlighted as she provides special “front line” insights into their readjust after experiencing the impact of combat exposure, trauma, and family deployment stress.
Their presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr. Sharon L. Rapp, a specialist in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder at the V.A. Outpatient Clinic in Santa Barbara, Jim Nolan, a Vietnam Vet who has served for many years as an instructor in Walter H. Capps’ celebrated course, “The Impact of the Vietnam War on American Religion and Culture,” and Richard Hecht, Department of Religious Studies, UCSB who has taught the course since 1996.
Courtesy of The Book Den, copies of Down Range and Once a Warrior will be available for purchase and signing at this event.
Presented by the Walter H. Capps Center for the Study of Ethics, Religion, and Public Life at UC Santa Barbara and cosponsored by the UCSB Affiliates, Office of Community Relations, and Office of the Chancellor. This event has also been made possible through the generous support of Gary and Mary Becker.
