Alpha Dog Screening and Speaking Engagement

Thu, Feb 07, 2008 at 7:00pm

Ventura College, Lecture Hall UV1, Telegraph Road, Ventura

Event Description

As heard on KCLU's Cross Talk, Ventura College Arts and Lectures presents a screening of the movie Alpha Dog with attorney and writer, Michael Mehas.

Mehas is the author of the critically acclaimed novel "Stolen Boy," based on the same case as "Alpha Dog." He also was an associate producer of "Alpha Dog" and is a key witness in the ongoing prosecution of Hollywood, who is being tried in Santa Barbara for his part in the kidnapping and murder of a West Hills teenager in 1999.

Mehas will lead Thursday's discussion on such topics as parent-child relationships, mob mentality, subculture of drugs and privilege, and parental responsibility versus peer influence in society.

While attending Pepperdine University in the early '80s, Mehas performed and worked for his mentor, independent film legend John Cassavetes, who gave him what he considers the best advice an aspiring writer could receive: "Go get experience in life to write from."
