Gallery 113 presents Betsy Gallery in an art exhibit entitled Love's Labor: A Valentine Mosaic. Betsy Gallery makes an art piece every time her love life takes a dramatic turn. Since 1999 her mosaics have reflected the joys and pain of a doomed relationship. Pieces such as “Queen of Hearts,” “Peace & Love,” “Roses are No Longer Red” and “Good-bye Joe, He Gotta Go” chronicle the ups and downs of an ill-fated affair with another artist.
Betsy Gallery studied the art of mosaic making in Ravenna and Venice, Italy. Although the “Love’s Labors” show is entirely original art, Betsy also delights in making replicas of ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and other traditional mosaics. She also creates mosaics from paintings. Betsy uses hand-made Italian smalti tessarae and 24 karat gold smalti, as well as more modern materials such as plates and tiles which she shapes on her electric ring saw.
Gallery 113 hours are 11am to 5 pm daily.
