Event Description

St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre Performs Shakespeare’s Classic Romeo and Juliet at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

Direct from St. Petersburg, Russia, the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Foundation presents the St. Petersburg Ballet performing Romeo and Juliet, a full-length ballet in three acts.

Shakespeare’s timeless tale of star-crossed lovers is presented in a refreshing and innovative interpretation through the artistry and technical brilliance of the dancers of the St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre. Sergi Prokofiev’s masterful score comes alive with original choreography of Sergei Vikulov set to a kaleidoscope of beautiful sets and colorful costumes.

Artistic Director Yuri Petukhov has danced leading roles including: Albert (“Giselle”), Siegfried (“Swan Lake”), Prince (“Nutcracker”), Romeo, Mercutio and Benvolio (“Romeo and Juliet”), and Orpheus (“Orpheus and Euridice”). Celebrated as one of the most interesting performers of modern choreography, Petukhov continues to create new works. Appointed by the Leningrad Conservatory as balletmaster, he has staged ballets in many theatres: “Don Quixote” (1987, Estonia), “Carmen” (Valencia, Spain), “Cinderella”, “The Nutcracker” (Tokyo) and many others. Petukhov has received first prize for best choreography and three first prizes as balletmaster from international competitions throughout Russia and abroad.
