The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Foundation presents Quinn Lemley in The Heat is On!
The Heat is On, the first show in the Kavli’s Band Series, is an explosive theatrical concert based on the life of movie star, Rita Hayworth. The show examines the life, loves and career of one of Hollywood’s most electrifying sirens, starring Quinn Lemley, who bears more than a passing resemblance to the Love Goddess. Inspired by Hayworth’s intoxicating movies, music, dance and storytelling, Lemley brings out Rita’s glamour, wit and venerability in this a scintillating, heartfelt tribute of theatre and music, backed by an electrifying 11-piece Big Band Orchestra. Lemley’s one-woman theatre piece has played to critical acclaim to sold-out audiences in major theatres, jazz and swing clubs throughout the U.S. and Europe. Through monologue and Hayworth’s music (“Long Ago and Far Away,” “Put the Blame On Mame,” “I’m Old Fashioned,” “Zip,” “The Lady Is A Tramp”, “Bewitched” . . .), Lemley explores Miss Hayworth’s infamous marriages to Orson Welles and Prince Aly Khan; her turbulent relationship with movie mogul Harry Cohn; her ascent into Hollywood stardom in the ’40s; and her final struggle with Alzheimer’s. Lemley received a MAC nomination for her poignant portrayal of Hayworth.
Written and directed by Carter Inskeep, (Always Patsy Cline), with choreography and gowns by Michael Louis, (National Actor’s Theatre), and musical arrangements by Bob McDowell, (Swingtime Canteen) and jazz arranger, Tedd Firth.
