Tall Ships Sail Into Ventura Harbor - Tall Ships Tour

Jan 31 - Feb 10, 2008

Ventura Harbor, 1603 Anchors Way Drive, Ventura

Event Description

Historical tall ships, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain make their return sail to the Ventura Harbor and will remain in the Ventura Harbor Village for viewing for the Tall Ships Tour.
To kick off the stay, 1st Company Washington Artillery of New Orleans makes it’s reappearance complete with a replica military camp from 1861 - 1865 including a hospital, butter making, tents, cannons, and a group campfire (Feb. 2 at dusk only) on Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3 on the Harbor Village Main Lawn - open to the public. Plus, visit an Abraham Lincoln impersonator wandering through the camp to take a picture with the former US President.
The topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain is a replica of a typical European merchant trader of the turn of the nineteenth century. Her hull shape and rigging are similar to those of Spanish explorer's ships used in the expeditions of the late 18th century along the Washington, Oregon, and California coasts. The Lady Washington, famous for her appearance in Pirate’s of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, is a full-scale reproduction of the original ship built in the British Colony of Massachusetts in the 1750’s. The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain travel down the West Coast stopping in ports and harbors for historical and educational visits. These ships host over 15,000 school children a year.

Open to the public the Dockside Public Tours will take place each weekday from 4 – 5 PM (closed Mondays) and on Saturdays from 10 AM – 1 PM in front of the Fisherman’s Memorial, near Andria’s Seafood Restaurant in the Ventura Harbor Village on Spinnaker Drive. Admission for the public tours are free, with donations gladly accepted. A photographer’s delight, the best viewing locations of the ships at full sail are at Harbor Cove Beach, Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center, Scotch and Sirloin Restaurant, and Ventura Harbor Village.
Free parking is available at the Ventura Harbor Village.
