Ojai Film Society is screening the movie The Jane Austen Book Club.
The Jane Austen Book Club, adapted from the novel by Karen Joy Fowler, tells the tale of six people (five women and one man) who form a group that meets over six months to discuss Jane Austen’s six complete novels. Each of the characters is at a turning point in her (or his) life, and has joined the group as a sort of therapy. The club members study each novel carefully and attempt to apply the lessons that they learn to their own lives. All six readers seem to find personal messages within the pages of the books, as if Miss Austen herself were speaking specifically to them.
