Wheeler Gorge Visitor's Center presents their Saturday Programs that are open to the public for a small donation.

Fees: Donation $2-3, Under age 4 FREE

July 19
7:00 PM The Last Days of the Dinosaurs
Presented by Richard Wade, scientist and educator
A hands-on, fun-filled presentation about how dinosaurs lived and died, even the sounds they made. Hold a real meteorite and fossils replicas.
Donations - adults $3, youth 5-18 $2, under 4 free.

11:00 AM The Chumash Experience
Presented by Monique Sonoquie, Native American, Author, educator and filmmaker
Monique, of Chumash and Apache ancestry, will take you on a cultural journey in the Chumash way of life with stories, games, crafts, and ceremonies.
Donations - adults $3, youth 5-18 $2, under 4 free.

11:00 AM Trees Are Treemendous
Presented by Lloyd Simpson, Biologist, Los Padres National Forest
Lloyd Simpson will give valuable insights on the trees and plants of the local area. Donations - adults $3, youth 5-18 $2, under 4 free.

11:00 AM Reptiles from Around the World
Presented by Tom Hagan and John Holmes, Southwestern Herpetologists Society, L. A. Chapter
A live show of large & impressive lizards and snakes.

11:00 AM Rescuing Ocean Animals
Presented by Ron Barrett, U.S. Navy
Wildlife rescuer Ron Barrett will present information and insights on sea lions, otters and other animals found in the surf or on the beach. A slide presentation & talk. Donations - adults $3, youth 5-18 $2, under 4 free.

August 23
7 PM How Big is Big, How Far is Far
Presented by Richard Wade, scientist & educator
Our dinosaur and volcano scientist will have the audience involved in a lively participatory talk about sizes and distances of things in astronomy. Help build scale models of the earth, moon, sun, solar system and other stars. Handle a real meteorite. Suitable for children age 5 to adult.

Presented by Wheeler Gorge Docent Mike Havstad
What issues face this endangered species and can it truly be returned to the wild to live on its own? A presentation and display of items.

9:30 AM Morning Workshop ED 101 - Docent Specific Training
Instructor: Mike Havstad
Learn to answer the many questions that people ask Ed at the Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center.

Presented by Kim Stroud, Director of the Ojai Raptor Center
A live demonstration of a variety of birds of prey: owls, hawks and falcons. Learn about raptors and what to do if you find an injured bird.

Trail Boss, Crew & Junior Leader Training Session I, Indoors
08:30 AM to 3:00 PM Director: Gordon Hemphill
Course Content: Safety Issues, Proper Use of Tools, U.S.F.S. Standard, Brushing, Tread Repairs & Construction, Advanced Topics, Awards and Recognition, and Review of Indoor Training on the Wheeler Gorge Nature Trail. You must be at least 11 years old & in good physical condition.

8:30 AM to 3:00 PM Director: Gordon Hemphill
