SBCC Adult Ed presents an inspiring lecture entilted Encountering Mortality & Living More Richly.
Honoring Yourself & Your Ancestors. Presented by Irvin Yalom, M.D. & Marilyn Yalom, Ph.D. Irvin Yalom, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry, Stanford University, is the author of Love's Executioner; Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy; Existential Psychotherapy; When Nietzsche Wept; Lying on the Couch; The Schopenhauer Cure; Momma and the Meaning of Life, and The Gift of Therapy. His latest book (Jan. 2008) is Staring at the Sun: Overcoming the Terror of Death. Drawing from ancient philosophers and remedies they have offered, Irvin Yalom will speak on the fact of inevitable death as an awakening experience that allows you to value life more vibrantly. Marilyn Yalom, Ph. D., Senior Scholar, Institute for Research on Women and Gender, Stanford University is the author of six books, including A History of the Breast and A History of the Wife, and the editor of six books, including Inside the American Couple. She will speak about the significance of death rituals for individual mourners, community, and the nation, based on her most recent work, The American Resting Place: Four Hundred Years of History through our Cemeteries and Burial Grounds.
