Event Description

Vita Art Center offers a Mexican Art Series I Folk Art workshop.

In this class students will learn about the folk art of Mexico. Making “repujados” we will learn the technique of emboss on soft metals and create images by using patterns and color, add volume, depth and textures on copper, aluminum and brass, we will mount the “repujado” on a wood board. Students will discuss the mythology of Mexican art and then create “Alebrijes”; fantastical creatures made out of wood and decorated with vibrant colors, first originated in a small town in the state of Oaxaca, Lastly we will learn how to make “retablos” also known as “exvotos” a traditional Mexican votive picture on a metal sheet. We will create a scene with acrylic colors. Retablos are part of the art expression known as; “Magical Realism”. $25. material fee included in price.
