Dr. Steven Lopez, a UCLA professor, will speak about “Cultural Competence as Process: Moving Beyond Culture as Ethnicity” in Samuelson Chapel. Lopez will draw on his research and clinical practice to present a model for culturally appropriate clinical work with diverse populations.

Dr. Miguel Gallardo, president of the California Psychological Association, will speak about “Culturally Responsive Therapy with Latinos: What Works and Why” in the Roth Nelson Room.

Gallardo, a licensed clinical psychologist and Pepperdine University professor, will discuss his research on bilingual and bicultural therapists and their ability to work with the Latino community. His work examines cultural-specific interventions used by therapists with Latino clients and other issues.
