Mon, Apr 07, 2008 at 12:30pm
County Government Center, 3rd floor multi-purpose room, 800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura
Event Description
The Ventura County Health Care Agency and The Public Health Department are hosting a thought-provoking discussion with experts in the field of Global Warming, titled: Global Warming, Our Health in the Balance: What Can We Do?
First District Supervisor Steve Bennett will head up an esteemed group of panelists, which includes Dr. Chris Funk, Climate Hazards Group; Dr. Dan Jordan, Research Psychologist, Ventura County Public Health; Chris Stevens, Director, Resource Management Agency; Mike Villegas, Ventura County Air Pollution Control District; and moderated by Ventura County Health Officer, Dr. Robert Levin.
With the best research confirming that the world’s climate is undergoing changes, it is important to note the impact that global climate change and pollution are having on people’s health and well-being. Smog impacts the ability to breath and increases asthma rates; higher temperatures bring bugs that carry diseases, some of which have been reported in the U.S. for the first time.
To find out more about the potential health hazards to Ventura County residents, as well as what individuals can do to make a difference, this two-hour discussion will be a dynamic and informative exchange on what has become a global dialogue.
