Fomer Ventura County Sheriff Loses Bid To Increase Pension

Posted on Friday, August 29, 2014 12:31pm

A judge has denied an effort by a retired Ventura County Sheriff to get a $75,000 addition to his annual pension.

In a six page ruling, Ventura County Superior Court Judge Teri Cody denied a request by Bob Brooks for a Writ of Mandate to force the additional payment.

Brooks was with the Sheriff’s Department for 37 years, including 12 years as Sheriff.

He contested the calculations used to determine his pension, which is currently more than $285,000 annually.

Brooks claimed that part of his decision in 2011 not to seek re-election was based on his understand that he would be receiving the supplement.
