New Fracking Related Controversy In Santa Barbara County

Posted on Thursday, August 28, 2014 3:25pm

There’s a new controversy over the issue of oil, and gas fracking in Santa Barbara County.

The City of Santa Maria is responding to an online petition which alleges that the city has given permission for fracking, and other high intensity oil drilling methods in parks, and open space areas.

City officials say while the city allowed drilling in the 1970’s, there are no active or idle wells in the city’s parks, or green belts, and that there are no pending requests for oil exploration anywhere in the city.

The officials say they have sent a written response to the petition’s organizers, saying that the petition contains inaccurate information.
