Posted on Friday, August 22, 2014 10:00am

A man in Santa Barbara County is being called a one person public health emergency, because he’s contagious with a serious, and potentially fatal disease, and his whereabouts are unknown.

A search is underway for Agustin Zeferino, who has drug resistant tuberculosis.

Santa Barbara County Public Health officials say he is aware of his condition, but discontinued treatment.

They say Zeferino could easily spread the disease when he comes in contact with other people, because TB can be Transmitted through the air.

Even though Zeferino’s form of TB is drug resistant, it is treatable, but without proper medication, it can be fatal.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the 24 year old man.

Public Health officials say Zeferino had been receiving extensive information, and medical consultation about his condition before he discontinued treatment, and disappeared.

Several years ago, Santa Barbara County officials had a similar case in which the infected man was eventually found and arrested, and kept in isolation while he was treated, and cured.
