New Outreach Effort Tries To Get Unwanted Prescription Drugs Out Of Homes In Ventura County Community

Posted on Friday, August 22, 2014 11:27am

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is trying a new approach in one community to try to get expired, and unwanted prescription drugs out of homes, and potentially off the streets.

The Sheriff’s Department took its prescription drug collection program into a Fillmore mobile home park, to try to make it ease for people to dispose of unwanted items.

Nearly 19 pounds of drugs were collected from the El Dorado Mobile Home Park.

Prescription drugs are among the most abused substances in the U.S.

And, when they are flushed down toilets, or thrown away in landfills they pose a threat to local water supplies.
