Van Driven By 13 Year Old Leads Police On Chase In Central Coast Before Crashing Into Store

Posted on Thursday, August 21, 2014 4:10pm

A Central Coast teenager has a lot of explaining to do, after leading police on a wild chase in a possibly stolen van which ended when he crashed into a crafts store in a shopping center.

It started at around 9:30 last night, when a Santa Maria Police officer reported seeing a van being driven recklessly near Thornburg Road and Carmen Lane.

The officer tried to stop the van, but it sped away, running a red light, and then crashing into a store on the 1600 block of South Broadway.

The van ended up completely inside the store, which was closed at the time.

Police say the driver, who was a 13 year boy, tried to escape on foot but was caught by officers.

No one was hurt.
